When people allow themselves to purchase clothing and fashion accessories, in many cases they are unaware of what goes into making them, such as poaching, animal abuse, smuggling of exotic species, environmental pollution, labor overexploitation, to name a few. The aim of this work was to develop a systematic review on how fashion can be compatible with sustainable consumption. To do this, 40 references related to the topic were consulted and selected for their relevance. It has been found that some recognized companies in the industry are committed to the sustainable development goals (SDGs), employing local talent in decent working conditions, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental pollutants, using alternative materials as substitutes for exotic skins. In conclusion, it is possible to consume fashion items responsibly and contribute to the sustainability of the industry and ecosystems.
