Abstract

Aortic dissection is a clinical condition in which there is an alteration of the normal anatomy of the intima and media of the aorta; this should be detected early because it can have a high mortality rate. It should be suspected and included in the differential diagnosis of any patient with severe chest pain, hypertension and normal or inconclusive electrocardiogram. The biggest challenge for the physician is to make the right diagnosis, whereas the symptoms and presentation varies according to the location of the dissection. The diagnosis must be confirmed with image methods available in the hospital where the patient is received to classify and establish the initial dissection and definitive therapeutic measures. Transfer should be considered in patients with high suspicion of this condition in the receiving hospital and there are no imaging studies or surgical team for definitive treatment, in all these patients should begin with the general management measures.
