Abstract

The objective of this investigation is to determine the obstacles that researchers feel at the time of carrying out their research in the First House of Higher Studies of Panama. When determining them, they were analyzed to find a solution. Currently, the University of Panama performs many procedures manually; the case of this research project is one of them. To register an investigation, it must be done in person and on a sheet of paper, and the research document is delivered in print.

The researchers say that this service has become outdated because today, we live in a digital world, where all daily activities include at least one technological device. Therefore, thanks to the surveys carried out on researchers, a proposal for a solution is presented to Vicerrectoria de Investigacion y Postgrado through a digital platform, which streamlines and facilitates the research registration process. The implementation of this digital platform brings great benefits to both Vicerrectoria de Investigacion y Postgrado and the University of Panama. Since, by having more research, we will obtain a better positioning for the University, at the research level, at the national and international level.

This system provides digital forms for the research registration, real time monitoring of the research registration process, monitoring of the progress of the research being carried out, registration of the final project with its publication site. In addition, it provides statistical data that facilitates us to keep track of research by month, by year, by faculty, by regional center and by researcher's gender. The system saves documents digitally to facilitate its portability, so it can be viewed at any time and in any place.

The system manages to stop Vicerrectoria de Investigacion y Postgrado from saving the projects in physical archivists, since they occupy space in the offices of the academic unit. In addition, it provides the researcher with information about the registration process and the progress before reaching the final presentation, thus providing the necessary support for researchers to observe that the process is faster, feeling a great motivation to re-conduct more research with This academic unit. The main question of this research project is, does the number of investigations within the University of Panama increase if the process is automated?
