Abstract

The stemborers Elasmopalpus lignosellus (Zeller) and Telchin licus (Drury) are key pests of economic importance in America's sugarcane plantations. Natural vegetation generally surrounds these sugarcane areas, if not well controlled, a wide range of weeds in and around sugarcane fields. The host plants reported in America were 87 for E. lignosellus and 6 for T. licus. Identifying the host plants where the sugarcane borers spend much of their time in and around sugarcane fields after harvest is crucial, so using bioecology of stalk borers can optimize pest management programs. This review gives a complete list of the host plants associated with two stemborer species of economic importance in sugarcane and pest and weed management implications.
