Abstract

The research aims to establish the effect caused by the geopolitics of international trade implemented by the North American administration between 2017 and 2021 on international and national maritime activity. The research hypothesis proposed that the average cargo transported by the Panama Canal would decrease after 2018 compared to 2017. Various descriptive methods were applied in the research. Geopolitics, its backgrounds, and application were treated. Likewise, the evolution of international trade and its link to direct investment are reviewed. The research examines the behavior of international and national maritime transport. The research concluded that, indeed, the trade war has negatively affected both domestic and international maritime transport.
