Abstract

The advantages and opportunities presented by certified tests in the English language for higher education are part of the investigative analysis that we carry out through this study. Based on the experience acquired as a teacher in the Department of English at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Panama, we consider that the problems of standardized tests in the English language as a requirement in different higher education curricula, it seems to hinder the topics which are addressed in classes, in the incorrect use of grammatical structures, comprehension problems, both oral and written difficulties in starting, maintaining and concluding a fluid conversation in different communicative situations, among others.  Thus, the main goal of this work is to validate a design to assess the level of English language learning as an academic requirement for students at the higher education level. In the same way, a brief review is presented on the fundamental aspects of the validation of certified tests, the measurement in levels of sufficiency of the language, analysis of the phases for the comparison of standardized tests and the strategic conformation of multiple intelligence as a way of learning a foreign language.
