Abstract

The article relates social exclusion to the housing problem in Panama City. Based on the projections, it establishes that 7% of families are in a situation of housing exclusion, to which should be added people living on the streets (homelessness) and families from informal settlements. It states that the low housing deficit in the center of the city should not be interpreted as a solution provided by the formal market, but rather as a product of the process of gentrification of the central area that implies the eviction of the population without credit capacity.
