Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze subject-verb agreement in sentences written by first year students of the bachelor’s degree in English at the Centro Regional Universitario de Los Santos. The research is descriptive-exploratory based on a quantitative approach. A grammatical test was applied in which the student had to recognize the subject, the verb and establish whether there were subject-verb agreement errors. The study shows that students present difficulties in subject-verb agreement when working with the third personal singular, plural subjects, relative pronouns, indefinite pronouns. These results provide both teachers and students with clear and scientific information about the causes of subject-verb mismatch and thus strengthen the teaching and learning of grammar within the English language.
