Abstract

The study aimed to describe the perceptions of employees, managers, and human resources personnel regarding the contribution of emotional intelligence to work motivation in small and medium-sized enterprises in the district of La Chorrera. A quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional design was adopted. The accessible population consisted of 102 participants and, given its size and availability, a census was conducted. Data were collected through a structured survey with closed-ended questions and a Likert-type scale assessing emotion recognition and management, self-regulation, empathy, effective communication, employee recognition, and emotional intelligence programs. Frequencies and percentages were used for the analysis. Results showed predominantly favorable perceptions: 77.5% considered that emotional intelligence programs contribute to work motivation and performance; 74.6% positively valued organizational empathy; and 70.6% recognized the contribution of emotional self-regulation and effective communication. In addition, 58.8% viewed emotion recognition and management favorably, while 52.9% endorsed recognition, support, and respectful treatment. It was concluded that participants perceived emotional competencies as relevant resources for strengthening motivation, commitment, and the work environment. Given the descriptive scope of the study, the findings reflect the perceptions of the studied group and do not support causal inferences.
