Abstract

In Panama, the modality of teleworking has been partially adopted, since its inception by multinational, globalized and logistics companies that operate in the special economic zone in Panama Pacifico, as part of the work processes admitted to their main headquarters and responding to the demands of their customers around the world. At the arrival of the COVID19 pandemic, responding to the public safety alert, all logistics companies fully admitted the modality of teleworking, to respond to the demands of international customers. However, Panama did not have legislation that regulated the modality of teleworking, until February 2020. From this research it is intended to identify what were the transversal competences required to be developed by the managerial and operational personnel who perform telework in logistics services companies, located in the special economic area of Panama Pacifico. A scientific analysis was carried out through descriptive research, using the survey in electronic format, which was sent to the personnel working in the logistics companies selected as a sample. The results obtained from the 74 collaborators of the logistics companies selected as a sample allowed us to obtain a clearer picture of the new challenges faced, both by supervisors and staff who perform telework, as well as the required competencies were identified to respond to this new work model that went from temporary or optional condition to an obligatory and permanent condition. This research provides a useful guide to recommend and guide logistics companies operating in the special economic zone of Panama Pacifico, on how to develop transversal skills in their employees, so that they can obtain high degrees of efficiency and competitiveness required and demanded in operations at an international level.
