Through this research, the level of ignorance about healthy eating, good eating habits, the level of awareness and valuation of health, in university students studying at the University of Panama, Regional Center of Panama West, was evidenced. Inspired by the efforts to meet the 2030 SDGs, sustainable development goals on food systems, where they propose innovative and ambitious measures so that, worldwide, the way food is produced and consumed, this research is carried out. According to statistical reports from the Ministry of Health, on the rate of chronic diseases of the health region of Panama West, as of 2019, 24,246 patients with diseases such as obesity, hypertensive diseases and diabetes mellitus were counted. In 2017, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census, there were 19,482 deaths, whose main causes were noncommunicable diseases. However, in this research, we sought to identify the answers to the following questions: Do students have knowledge about the consequences of unhealthy eating? What are the factors that affect the levels of obesity in students? What are the barriers and challenges students face in adopting and maintaining healthy eating? How can the university contribute to your health care? The methodological process of this research is quantitative. The survey was used as a data collection instrument, designed in google format and was applied to the students of the different careers and in the three (3) shifts, in person. The results obtained lay the foundations for the development of university social responsibility programs, and implementation of strategies aimed at promoting good eating habits among students, so that we actively contribute to reducing mortality rates in the province of Panama Oeste, caused by non-communicable diseases such as: obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
