House dust mites are the main source of allergens inside homes and are responsible for several allergic diseases. With the aim of determining the diversity and abundance of dust mites in bedrooms of houses in two districts of the province of Chiriquí: Boquete (highlands) and David (lowlands), three samplings were carried out during 2014, in May, August and November. The samples were taken using the brushing method in an area of one square meter under beds. An aliquot of 0.1 gram of dustwas taken from each sample and the mites present were counted. A total of 85 dust samples were obtained, of which 1,137 individuals belonging to 17 genera, 17 families, of four orders of mites were identified. Boquete showed the highest values for average density (mites / gram of dust) and species richness. Dermatophagoides pteronyssinuswas the most important species in Boquete and Typhlodromus transvaalensiswas the most abundant for the houses in David. The Bray-Curtis similarity coefficient reflected very low similarity between the communities of house mites of Boquete and David, possibly due to the differences in temperature and humidity of each locality.
