Abstract

At the Pacific Panamanian, Coiba National Park, it was fulfilled, through autonomous diving, observations about Strombus galeatus. The objective of this reserch was to stablish the growth rate and fulfill on Strombus galeatus behavior and reproduction. For this research it was marked 88 units in april 1999. They were kept in observation until january 2000, doing monthly recapture, additionally went over and over from the superficial zone until 20 m deep searching Strombus galeatus in copula process. From the results obtained we can say that Strombus galeatus presents an average growth of 4.58 mm/month for sizes between 100 and 200 mm. For sizes close to 100 mm growth rate is 8.21 mm/month and for sizes close to 200 mm growth rate is 1.73 mm/month. The specie behavior shows a stratification for sizes in relation with depth and a agregational pattern to superior depth of 5 meters during reproduction season. Females spawning checked on July – August and January. The illegal extraction of artesanal fisherman help lot on resources deterioration, because they capture juvenile and subadult stages decreasing the populations reproduction capacity.
