Abstract

Because its impact on native prey and transmission of diseases domestic cats are considered among the 100 most harmful biological invaders in the world. Among the objectives of this study is to determine the population structure of the domestic cat. To this end, the abundance and density of the species, its age structure, and sex ratio were estimated using capture, mark, and recapture photography. The cat population was characterized by the dominance of adult individuals; compared to other studies, these showed low abundance and density and a 1:1 sex ratio. Schnabel's capture-mark-recapture method provided a more robust and reliable estimate of cat population abundance in comparison with the Lincoln-Petersen method
