In order to determine the families and genera of Ephemeroptera in the aquatic systems (riverine) of Veraguas province and establish the functional feeding groups (FFG) for each genus, sampling was conducted from November 2013 until August 2014. Rivers in the Pacific side included: Santa Maria, San Pablo, San Pedro, Gatú, Quebro, Caté, Sábalo and El Salto, while the Caribbean included the Guázaro river. A D-net of approximately 350 cm3 and 500 mm was used to scan the margins and bottom of sampling stations; specimens were collected with entomological forceps. Also, a literature review was conducted on publications and theses about the aquatic insects in the Province of Veraguas. In the Province of Veraguas, there are 7 families and 19 genera of the order Ephemeroptera, namely Baetidae (Americabaetis, Baetis, Baetodes, Camelobaetidius, Dactylobaetis, Mayobaetis, and Moribaetis); Caenidae (Caenis); Euthyplociidae (Euthyplocia and Campylocia); Heptageniidae (?); Leptophlebiidae (Traverella, Thraulodes, Farrodes, Terpides and Choroterpes); Leptohyphidae (Leptohyphes, Asioplax, Tricorythodes and Vacupernius) and Oligoneuriidae (?). The functional feeding groups, considered were: collectors (gatherers and filterers), shredders, scrapers and predators. Three hundred seventy-five intestinal contents of the following genera were analyzed: Traverella (61), Thraulodes (199), Farrodes (10), Leptohyphes (36), Asioplax (16), Tricorythodes (21), Vacupernius (2), Baetodes (20), Camelobaetidius (7) and Mayobaetis (3). Based on the intestinal content and morphological mechanism, genera such as: Thraulodes, Farrodes, Leptohyphes, Asioplax, Tricorythodes, Vacupernius, Baetodes, Camelobaetidius, and Mayobaetis were primarily assigned to the gatherer-collector group and in second instance to the scrapper FFG, while Travella, was assigned to the filtering-collector FFG.
