Abstract

The companies dedicated to the practice of engineering express that, under the new era of knowledge, graduates of engineering careers require a complement of interpersonal skills on their
technical knowledge. Soft skills could be the answer to this great need. That is why knowledge of skills is necessary to improve job performance, where engineering students must have skills of
emotional understanding, creativity and interpersonal relationships. The axis of this study is to identify soft skills in students belonging to the engineering branch in Panama City. The objective of this work was to study the perception of students of engineering careers in Panama City in general, with respect to the soft skills acquired in their academic training. In order to identify those soft skills that are not covered in their entirety. This research work seeks to carry out an analysis of how soft skills influence at the work and organizational level, as well as to know what soft skills are in the work environment, through the method used in this research work that was descriptive and transversal. For this, various investigations and surveys were carried out already carried out of students graduated from the engineering career in Panama City, which resulted in a lack of soft skills, which will be more detailed about problems to work under pressure, in a team and little creativity. It is concluded that soft skills within engineering careers are a need that should be deepened and these should be reinforced through programs that allow graduates of the engineering career to obtain these skills so that they are competent in technical knowledge and interpersonal.
