Abstract

Due to the high energy consumption at the governmental level and the lack of an energy performance system and energy efficiency measures that allow achieving cost reduction through energy savings, this article presents ISO 50001 version 2018 is an international standard developed by ISO, this version cancels and replaces the first edition 2011. This standard determines the requirements for energy management in an organization and its application in all types of companies and organizations regardless of their size or activity. The objective of this standard is to integrate energy management within an organization with an efficient management system and the measures that a company adopts and implements an energy saving plan. A systematization of management processes that seeks efficiency and involves cultural changes that involve the responsibility of senior management and the participation of the entire organization, with planning of objectives, implementation of plans, review and continuous improvement. This work provides a guide for organizations to implement the standard.
