With the purpose of having technical criteria to guide common computer buyers, in selecting computer equipment that offers the best performance within the available budget and based on the ratio of performance versus price, a census was developed within the college population from January to March 2019; two surveys were applied as a means of data collection, which present 37.5% of open ended questions and 62.5% of closed questions, both were structured and validated as references for obtaining the results. A non-experimental analysis model was developed where the results obtained were contrasted with an evaluation of a normal distribution model. As a conclusive aspect, under the proposed evaluation model, it was determined that, within the reference group, only 18.81% of the answers were correct, which reflects a very poor knowledge regarding the understanding of the fundamental characteristics of their equipment.
