Abstract

Objetive: determine the relationship between the perception of the humanized care behavior of the nurse and the level of functionality of the elderly patient, hospitalized in the medical and surgery services of the Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital Complex during January - February 2016.

Methology:  Responds to the quantitative paradigm and it has a descriptive approach. n= 92 patients between ages 60 and over answered the Perception of Humanized Nursing Care Behavior Questionnaire and their functionality was evaluated with the Barthel Scale Index modified by Shah, both instruments have a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient above 0.947.   Through the statistical program SPSS version 21 the analyzes are done presenting descriptive and inferential results.

Results: The global perception of the humanized care of nurses was evaluated as excellent in 20% (18); good at 76% (70); and regular 4% (4); Most of the patients perceived a good behavior of humanized care from nurses, being the highest category "qualities of doing of the nurse, which reflects the high level of knowledge and skill that nurses from the CHMAG have for the care of the elderly patients. In relation to the functionality of the elderly, 42.4% have severe dependence, 35.9% moderate dependency and 13% total dependence, highlighting some degree of inability to do certain activities.

Conclusions:  It could be demonstrated that the perception that older adults have regarding the humanized care behavior of the nurse is not related to their level of functionality.
