Abstract

Work accidents have become one of the most important challenges for organizations in the construction sector to address. It is urgent to take measures to avoid damage to physical integrity and economic loss. A review was made of works published in the last 10 years, as well as the national information issued by the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion - MTPE in recent months. The methodology used in the research was Total Observation (OT). This research comprises a holistic and systematic review of the Accident Prevention literature taking into account certain key aspects for the management and implementation of Total Observation. In addition, the approaches and scale of the observations based on the causal agents of the accidents described by the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion are considered and discussed. For the analysis, the sector, age, sex and type of injury, part of the body affected, severity of accidents and the safety strategies implemented were considered. Where a common element was found such as implemented safety strategies, this being the observation in the approach at all levels such as the behavior of workers, equipment, materials and work areas. The OT presents approaches from the worker, foreman or whoever takes his place in an activity and supervisor to address substandard acts and conditions. OT allows the organization to determine a security index for taking immediate measures in order to avoid any undesired conditions
