Abstract

The response of corn F2 hybrid, rice and Vigna beans native variety (cowpea) at two seeding rates in green fodder and nutrient values production was evaluated. Seeds of all crops were sown in the 0.20-m2 planting trays. The seeding rates used in this experiment were about 604, 804 g tray?1. A diluted nutrient solution was apply by drip irrigation. Harvest was make at 12 days after planting. Plant height, green fodder yield, conversion relation from seed to forage, stem diameter and nutritional values were evaluate. The results of this study showed that the corn F2 (30 F 87) forage crop cultivar was superior to the other two tested in respect to plant height, and conversion factor of seeds into green fodder. Non-difference significance among forage crops respect to green fodder yields but yields obtain by Vigna beans were greater than the others were. Results also showed that crude protein content of Vigna bean was superior. Nutrient value contents of N, Ca, P, Mg and K for most treatments were according to the National Research Council (1989) requirements. In conclusion, the 604 g tray -1 (30 g dm2 -1) is the best choice for conversion factor of seeds into green fodder however the 804 g tray -1 (40 g dm2 -1) showed greater green fodder yields in all crops. Corn, Vigna beans and rice could be an alternative for farm animal nutrition under hydroponic production.
