Abstract

Prostitution considered by many to be the oldest lucrative trade in the world, is also the least explored or studied. There is progress in the studies of the phenomenon and the main advance is to have recognized it as a "social problem" but, there is still a gap in terms of theoretical and scientific information to understand it. Immersed or originated in that emptiness of data, positions with cultural and historical bases that qualify this activity arise, often denigrating whoever executes it. This study proposes to gather information about women as subjects of prostitution and the way in which they carry out such activity. The research is cross-sectional, descriptive, exploratory, the instrument tested by piloting, was an interview aimed at a sample of 62 sex workers from the provinces of Panama and Herrera. The findings: more than 95% are under 35 years of age, more than 61% said they were married, 62% had a college education, 59% were from Colombia, 35% started prostitution between 15 and 18 years of age. Age, 53% hide their dedication from the family, 82% have suffered discrimination because of what they do, 52% have been victims of violence from their clients, 89% have financial reasons to prostitute themselves, 60% he prostitutes himself in clubs, 54.8% said he drinks liquor and takes drugs with his clients, 50% is dedicated to 24/7 activity; 75% said they can refuse the client.
