Every day more and more societies in Latin American countries are included in the use of digital technologies as part of state policies in the XXI century. Information systems, databases, cell phones and telephone applications are, perhaps, the most common, of daily use and that seem natural to us. The technology called QR code is part of these designs of software engineering that has positioned itself in the human endeavor in ways ranging from being effective information solution for users to connectivity tool between different technologies in complex manufacturing systems highlighted by its almost total digitization. The objective of this article is to reflect on the impact of QR technology in the development of social and productive phenomena in society. A qualitative documentary research was conducted through the Internet, in technical, scientific and academic documents, on the application of the QR code in some fields of social human activity, finding a variety of forms of use that make this technology a catalytic agent of activities in commerce, finance, agricultural production, security, etc., which allow us to affirm that it is a catalyst for the achievement of optimal conditions for a high level of quality of life.
