Research has been a fundamental pillar of higher education, especially in the preparation of teachers in fields related to social communication and journalism. In this sense, the present study analyzes the role of research as a strategic resource in the academic training of faculty at the School of Journalism, Faculty of Social Communication, University of Panama, as well as its impact on the quality of education. The general objective is to analyze the role of research as a strategic element in the training of journalism teachers and its impact on the quality of university education. The study methodology employed an exploratory-descriptive institutional case study design. The population consisted of active faculty members during the 2025 academic year. The census sample comprised 22 faculty members, who were surveyed with open-ended and closed-ended questions designed to identify perceptions, limitations, and needs related to academic research. The results showed a positive assessment of research as a pedagogical tool; However, they also revealed weaknesses in institutional support, resource availability, and specialized methodological training.
It was concluded that strengthening a research culture in journalism education is fundamental to improving educational quality, promoting academic innovation, and responding to the demands of the contemporary communication landscape.
