Abstract

In order to determine the families and genera of aquatic insects that live in Tribique river, District of Sona, Province of Veraguas, Republic of Panama; a collecting program was conduced since January till June, 2001. We collected 11 insects orders assorted in 48 families and 98 genera. The insects were collected using a D-net with a mesh of 1 mm., also we use forceps in rocky substrate lodge. The most representative orders according to the number of families and genera were: The Hemiptera with 11 families and 22 genera; Odonata with eight families and 22 genera; Coleopteran with seven families and 15 genera; Trichoptera with seven families and 13 genera, and Ephemeroptera with six families and 12 genera. Diptera only was represented by five families and nine genera while, Lepidoptera, Neuropteran, and Plecoptera by only one family and one genera for each one.
