Abstract

The increasing demand for inflexible working hours and workdays generates a certain level of uncertainty and instability in public employees, being this one of the triggers for work stress, better known as Burning Syndrome, a disease acknowledged by international entities such as the World Health Organization and the International Labor Organization. This illness, silently affects the economically active population, causing physical and psychological changes. Within the linking and primary prevention project of work stress for public sector workers, the general objective was to “Describe the levels of Burnout syndrome in employees of the Municipal Decentralized Autonomous Governments of the Cevallos, Píllaro and Quero in the province of Tungurahua”. This was a descriptive-exploratory, quantitative, cross-sectional study in a population of 280 people where the psychometric instrument Maslach Burnout Inventory was applied to obtain a diagnostic and evaluative view of the level of occupational stress based on three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal fulfillment. As a results, a middle level for emotional exhaustion and personal fulfillment was identified and, on the other hand, a high level of depersonalization was marked; In addition, a higher incidence was observed in men than in women and the most affected Canton was Quero. Consequently, in this group of people emotional exhaustion and personal fulfillment was determined at an acceptable level, but prone to trigger Burnout syndrome: and regarding depersonalization, a severe, generating danger of the state of interpersonal relationships was determined altering the cohesion of harmonic work. This study sought to demonstrate one of the correlation variables within the field of organizational psychology based on science and preservation of the stability and integrity of people.
