In Panama, cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality, being the breast and prostate cancer two out of the first five (5) causes reported while this study was carried outs. For this type of pathologies the treatment oriented consisted of drug treatment, radiological and surgical intervention. Information about the drug prices to treat this disease is unknown.
This research aims at evaluating performance of the drug prices used in breast and prostate cancer in the country. This is an observational longitudinal, retrospective and descriptive study. The universe and sample consisted of the medicine prices for the treatment of breast and prostate cancer, proceeding to build a database with information collected which was processed and analyzed through statistical tests. The results revealed that the variations of medicine prices used in these pathologies are significantly high and with a tendency to increase while the study took place. It is concluded that medicine prices for the treatment of breast and prostate cancer used in the private sector are mostly above of those found in the state sector. This require both setting a policy for drug cancer prices and their monitoring.
