Abstract

To carry out a bibliographic review of studies carried out on patients with breast cancer, on the relationship between quality of life with family functioning, perceived social support and the identity of the disease; as well as on the most frequently used instruments for the evaluation of quality of life; and, on the psychotherapeutic practices most frequently employed for their approach. A bibliographic research was carried out in the databases: Proquest, Scopus, Web of Science and Medline, of studies that related breast cancer and quality of life with family functioning, perceived social support and identity of the disease, as well as experimental and quasi-experimental studies and systematic reviews on the most frequently employed psychotherapeutic practices. Thirty researches were obtained which included the variables under study, whose publication dates belong to the period 2015 - 2020. Psychological interventions based on Mindfulness demonstrated high levels of effectiveness and are the most used for the approach of quality of life in patients with breast cancer. The family is the main source of social support, especially the spouse, whose support is directly related to health-related quality of life. Family functioning, specifically flexibility, adaptation to change, family cohesion and communication; as well as the incorporation of the disease to personal identity, are associated with a higher quality of life related to health.
