Abstract

The Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) could be considered one of the most serious, having a characteristic instability in its interaction contexts, which includes difficulties in its emotional, behavioral and especially in interpersonal relationships, making it a a disorder difficult to manage for the clinician. The objective of this work is to analyze the incidence of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of the dichotomous thinking of BPD. For this, a qualitative, non-experimental, descriptive, bibliographic research was carried out. First, studies that evidence the presence of cognitive distortions in BPD, mainly dichotomous thinking, were analyzed; later for the treatment, therapies derived from the cognitive-behavioral model were mentioned for therapeutic processes, among which are: Beck's Cognitive Therapy (CT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Scheme-Centered Therapy. In the aforementioned studies, a positive incidence was evidenced in the cognitive distortions (dichotomous thinking) that patients with BPD present, which can even improve their quality of life, in addition, BDT achieves an important effect by equipping patients with skills to identify their emotions, behaviors and thoughts, likewise CT shows improvement in cognitive reappraisal and cognitive errors. However, the limitation in existing research on the subject invites future studies to provide effective and efficient therapeutic interventions in this type of population.
