Abstract

The elemental composition of the 10 best-selling bottled water brands in the Republic of Panama was determined. The concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb and Sb were determined by ICP-MS which is a widely used technique to detect and quantify heavy metals in different samples. The composition of all the analyzed waters samples is below the values established by the Technical Regulation DGNTI.COPANIT 77-2007 that regulates the quality of bottled water in Panamá, the World Health Organization and the European Community. The elements analyzed showed differences between the brands studied with a significance value p <0.05, with the exception of lead whose value of p = 0.529.
