The phenomenon of war is reviews from several perspectives. From the application of dialectical materialism, the idealistic thought of European modernity, the pacifist liberalism and progressist and revolutionary liberalism of Latin American independence. The dialectical materialist interpretation conceives of war as a historical and political phenomenon conditioned by the contradictions inherent in the forms of organization of the economy, the ideological superstructure and the class structure of society. European idealism anti-war liberalism associate the nature of war with moral and ethical causes, with respective nuances. While the Bolivarian independence movement is based on the notion of just war and conceives the armed struggle as a way for national, social and personal liberation.
