Wastewater discharges have resulted in antibiotic-resistant bacteria reaching rivers. The objective of this research was to evaluate the resistance of bacteria isolated from the different water intakes of the Azuero water treatment plants. Bacteria were isolated by means of the membrane filter technique and biochemical tests were performed. Kirby Bauer's method of diffusion on discs was used. According to the characterization and isolation of bacteria and their frequency there is a great occurrence of bacterial genera Among the different plant intakes, the antibiotics with the highest resistance were Ceftriaxone and Ticarcilin for all isolated bacteria. The p-value is less than the significance level p ? 0.05, the test statistic H is equal to 64.313 (GL = 6) finding significant differences between the physical parameters and coliforms evaluated from the different water intakes. It is concluded that there is no relationship between bacteria and antibiotics.
