The buffer area of Coiba National Park involves the rivers that flow into the southern coast of the province of Veraguas in Panama. One of these rivers is the Suay River, which is located in the Mariato district. In this study, the mouth of the river in the Gulf of Montijo was evaluated, analyzing microbiological variables (total coliforms, fecal coliforms) and some physical-chemical variables (pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids) during the year 2021. The samples were taken at three sites at the mouth of the river and statistical tests were applied to the results to compare them, where all the variables were similar in each site sampled in both times of the year (dry and rainy). The sampling sites were also compared without finding differences between them. Finally, the two seasons of the year were compared, finding that the rainy season was slightly higher than the dry season in terms of fecal coliforms. Altogether, the results showed that the data for all variables were within acceptable limits according to the standards established for surface waters in Panama, so it was considered that the area conserves the ecological conditions necessary for life forms.
