The moment-curvature diagram is fundamental to obtaining the behavior of reinforced concrete structural sections under a load cycle. In this paper, the generation and analysis of these diagrams for reinforced concrete sections subjected to monotonic bending is investigated. Materials and methods: An application integrated in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (Visual Basic for Applications -VBA) was developed to construct moment-bending diagrams in a practical and accessible way. The accuracy of the program was validated through comparisons with results obtained through the ETABS Section Designer software. Development: This analysis was performed using the developed tool and concrete beam design strength spreadsheets, which allowed a detailed evaluation of the effects of different reinforcement conditions and considering the characteristics of the materials. This article follows a theoretical and explanatory approach, using fundamental concepts of strength of materials, showing them in a simpler way. Quantitative methods are used to compare the results. A technical, investigative and conceptual analysis approach is used. Results: The results obtained confirm the effectiveness of the bending moment diagram to identify the ductility relationship and to compare how these elements behave under the condition of dissipating energy. Our interest is to explain in a practical way the concept of ductility and how this concept is applied to reinforced concrete beam elements.
