Abstract

The assessment of dental development is a critical component of pediatric dental practice, as it provides insight into the degree of biological maturation and guides clinical decision-making. In this context, the estimation of dental age using radiographic methods has established itself as a useful tool for evaluating the chronology of dental development and its potential variations. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between chronological age and dental age in children aged 5 to 9 years treated at the Comprehensive Clinic of the School of Dentistry at the University of Panama, using the Nolla method as a reference. A retrospective descriptive study was conducted, based on the analysis of panoramic radiographs from 65 patients. Dental age was estimated based on stages of dental mineralization, while chronological age was obtained from clinical records. The results revealed a close correlation between both variables, with no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05). Furthermore, linear regression analysis showed a positive relationship between chronological age and dental age (R² = 0.7683), indicating that a considerable proportion of the variability in dental development can be explained by chronological age.
