Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate how the press in the San Martin province treats the information about Climate Change. The type of research is applied and basic because it shows understanding of reality and nature phenomena; besides it is descriptive since it describes how the press treats the aspects related to Climate Change; also it is inductive and deductive because we can get conclusions on the effects of Climate Change. The nature of the research is by objectives. In relation to the sample, this was made of 27 articles from each newspaper (AHORA and VOCES), while the research technic is documentary or biographic and uses the questionnaire as instrument. The conclusions of the research show that the media in the San Martin region has little consideration for Climate Change. It is worrying that that press has not published any article related to the forests, plagues or diseases during The Investigation Month. Additionally, the news published about Climate Change and environmental challenges on the newspapers AHORA and VOCES were only columns made by journalists or social communicators. The results of this research show that Climate Change is merely referred in the press of the San Martin Province. It is also recommendable to do research in other regions of the country to verify if the same press situation is happening there as well and do it using other media sources such as television, radio stations, social networks, magazines, etc. In the same way, the owners of those media companies should have institutional policies that improve the environment, creating a webpage or section exclusively about the diffusion of environmental topics. Finally, we should use the written press to publish scientific articles generated by universities or private researches in topics related to solving the environmental challenges, using a simple language to inform, and, in this way, convince the local population to solve the problem.
