The quality of port services is a strategic factor for Panama's economic competitiveness, given its privileged geographic location and the importance of the Panama Canal as a key link in international maritime trade. In this context, the quality standards applied to port operations play a fundamental role in logistical efficiency, attracting investment, generating employment, and strengthening the country's sustainable economic development. The objective of this research was to analyze the quality standards aimed at optimizing services in Panama's main ports, establishing the relationship between efficiency in vessel service and cargo handling quality. The research was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative techniques to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon under study. A literature review was carried out, including specialized scientific literature, technical reports, and documents issued by organizations linked to the maritime-port sector. Data was also collected from freight forwarders, exporters, and importers to assess their perceptions of service quality, operational efficiency, safety, and transparency in port operations. The variables analyzed were average vessel wait times at the dock and average container dispatch time. The results showed that over 90% of the ports analyzed meet the previously established efficiency standards. Furthermore, a strong positive correlation was identified between these two variables, demonstrating that a reduction in vessel wait times is associated with faster container dispatch. In conclusion, the analysis allowed for the formulation of recommendations aimed at strengthening quality standards and optimizing the operational performance of Panama's main ports, thus contributing to the competitiveness and sustainability of the national port system.
