Domestic violence has consequences on academic performance, as well as on human relations in the students' environment. As a result, the student cannot perform well in school; they suffer from depression, loss of interest and as they do not find support in their family, they seek refuge in friendships. In this sense, the aim of the research is to carry out a reflexive analysis of a variety of scientific documents and different contexts on domestic violence, the effect on the academic performance of students and the impact it has on our society. The methodology corresponds to a qualitative-analytical-interpretative approach, using the strategy of documentary analysis and the state of the art. Thirty-six documents related to the subject under study were analysed. It was found that the incidence of domestic violence has made a difference in the acquisition of knowledge among students who come from affected homes compared to those who develop within a climate of harmony and understanding. And although Panama has institutions to support people who suffer domestic violence, there are many cases, which have increased in recent years due to the COVID 19 pandemic, as well as to the lack of will and leadership of the main state authorities.
