Abstract

The growth in the use of digital technologies and virtual information systems is a fact that became more visible in the environment of the global pandemic of the COVID 19 coronavirus. From a call between cell phones to disruptive technologies, such as the internet of things, the generation and traffic of data in cyberspace increased exponentially. This accelerated connectivity brings a problem: the efficient management of the large volume of data constantly generated by connected devices, its creation, processing, distribution and storage for a user, who is not necessarily a human being. Latency appears, a phenomenon characterized by the delay of data transmission, which affects processes and implies significant costs in the production of goods and services. To solve this problem, developers have designed program architectures such as selection and storage strategies close to the devices that make it possible to keep useful information in cyberspaces closer to the users' computing platforms and processes. One of them is Edge Computing, which is an important catalyst for the fulfillment of digital processes in the shortest possible time for greater efficiency and profitability. This article aims an analysis of this tool from the dimensions of data processing and Information and Communication Technologies, which it strengthens. It is also a description of the penetration and implementation of technology in digital platforms in Panama and future expectations that means. It is a review in academic, scientific and technical documents whose main conclusion is that the disruptive development means a substantive advance for many areas of human knowledge and with wide fields of application in the industrial production of goods and services in Panama.
