Abstract

The study was carried out to determine the relationship between milk production at the level of family farming and forage resources in the region. For the analysis, data from 2008 to 2018 were obtained from the National Institute of Statistics and Census. The information included the following data: area occupied by pastures, forests and protein banks, number of animals, type of livestock production and the activity carried out by individuals aged over 15 years, number of individuals practicing agriculture, and education levels between inhabitants of the province of Darién. The analyzes were based on techniques of the interrelation of variables, treating the factors in a binomial form, using Multiple Components with the help of the statistical computing environment R. The results allowed to infer that bovine production is a recent activity in the region, being more frequent the presence of breeding and fattening animals than the presence of dairy animals. Livestock practice is related to the loss of forests and natural pastures, with the practice of dairy activity having a more significant relationship, mainly when carried out by households with high work potential led by owners with a low level of education.
