Abstract

The purpose of this article is to reflect on the theoretical criteria of the research called "Diagnosis of the interference of the Spanish language in learning English as a second language in Panama". Consequently, it is developed with a qualitative methodology; that gathers documentary information elaborated by psychologists, linguists and educators; highlighting English language learning and the effects of the first language interference on second language acquisition. Therefore, it concludes that, regardless of whether in some cases the person demonstrates a perfect pronunciation, there are problems such as stress, intonation, meaning and other characteristics of the language that are reflected by the speaker. For this reason, it is based on the condition that an adult who begins to learn another language at the puberty stage does not seem to have the same facility in acquiring a second language naturally and effectively; what represents the so-called "language interference". During this phase, the English language learner is usually confused in the processing, assimilation, comprehension, and reproduction; revealing an inability to understand and communicate with linguistic effectiveness.
