Abstract

Moving beyond interpretations that privilege his military dimension or his profile as an idealist liberal, I propose viewing Simón Bolívar (1783–1830) as a geopolitical and cultural architect: a “constructor of imaginaries” who articulated discourses, rituals, symbols, institutions, and transnational networks to establish Spanish America as a historical subject capable of resisting European imperial restoration and forging regional sovereignties. This article reconstructs Bolivarian symbolic and material practices—ranging from the rhetoric of the *Jamaica Letter* and the *Angostura Address* to the convocation of the Congress of Panama—and situates them in dialogue with scholarship on political performativity, postcolonial *realpolitik*, and public memory (Bolívar, 1815, 1819; Congress of Panama Proceedings, 1826; Lynch, 2006; Arana, 2013; Halperín Donghi, 2003).
