In Ecuador crimes of violence against women are on the rise, considering violence a priority at the public, political, scientific and social health level; With the eradication of this phenomenon as the main axis, the need arises to study the aggressor; their personality and the different psychological variables (cognitive distortions) in order to generate specialized treatments aimed at mitigating this problem. Objective; The present research aims to analyze the personality traits and cognitive distortions in relation to women and the use of violence, Method; the instruments used are the IPDE "International Examination of Personality Disorders" and the IPDMUV; Inventory of distorted thoughts about women and the use of violence (IPDMUV –R; Echeburúa, Amor, Belén Sarasua, Irene Zubizarreta and Francisco Pablo Holgado-Tello 2016). The study population was made up of 95 subjects deprived of liberty from the Cañar Social Rehabilitation Center. Results and conclusions; The study reflects a population with an average age of 39 years, a level of basic instruction in 93.68% of the subjects and despite the variety of crimes committed, it is highlighted that in 49.48% of them the victim has been a woman among these; rape, femicide, sexual harassment, non-compliance with decisions, physical violence. Among the personality traits that stand out, 20, 00% show avoidant traits and 16.8% histrionic personality traits, another finding is that the older the subject the cognitive distortions decrease and finally and in correspondence with the aforementioned In theory, 75.79% consider that what happens within a family is only a family problem.
