Abstract

The objective of this research is to diagnose the current situation of Information Technology (IT) Management Projects in Panamanian banking, so that it can be known if Panamanian banking entities handle the basic elements for Project Management. This research is descriptive that seeks to know the situations, customs and prevailing attitudes in the field of IT Project Management in banking institutions. Of the 50 Panamanian banks with a general license, 10 entities were studied, selected based on criteria such as: facilities, services, products and existing organizational structure for the development of IT projects. To gather the information, a questionnaire of 52 questions distributed by indicators of the basic elements for the IT Project Management was used. Research shows that Panamanian banks, for the most part, do not handle standards for IT Project Management, causing improvisations that lead to increased costs and delays in project times.
