Since the constitution of the political units that was resulted from the wars of independence of the early 19th century in Latin America, two opposing ideological and political tendencies have dominated the scene of the academic and diplomatic discussions of the last 200 years. The first of Bolivarian inspiration and the second of Anglo Saxon inspiration to ensure the domain of the resources of the new world. One, proposed in the Congress of Panama and the other is the result of a declaration by the US government with imperial aspirations.
Two recognized and distinguished men of letters and politics, address the issues that with this simple essay we intend to focus. They are the Mexican José Vasconcelos and the Colombian Indalecio Liévano Aguirre. With his important contributions and those of some other researchers related to the Hispanic American theme, we present some valuations on the thesis in conflict: Bolivarismo and Monroísmo.
