Abstract

This research article aims to evaluate the impact of using audiovisual resources in the didactic study of history in pre-university students. A mixed-methods approach with a descriptive scope was employed. The research was conducted at the Ernesto Dimas López Pre-University Institute (Mayabeque, Cuba) through the implementation of a didactic sequence based on audiovisual narratives and a complementary program of Cuban films. Data collection involved participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and a perception questionnaire administered to a sample of 28 eleventh-grade students. The findings confirm that the integration of film materials, guided by critical analysis exercises, enhances the understanding of historical multicausality and fosters interest in local history. However, technical limitations in accessing the materials were identified, as well as the need to strengthen teachers' skills in designing specialized didactic sequences. It is concluded that audiovisual media is an effective pedagogical tool whose validity depends on the didactic intent and not on the technical support. The main contribution lies in the validation of a strategy that transforms passive observation into an exercise in complex historical analysis, establishing a model transferable to other secondary school contexts.
