Abstract

The aim of this work was to systematically analyze scientific production published between 2015 and 2025 on gamification and educational video games, focusing on approaches, results, and methodological challenges. A systematic review guided by the PRISMA methodology was conducted, analyzing 82 studies indexed in the Scopus database. The analysis identified thematic and methodological trends, highlighting the predominance of quasi-experimental designs and mixed-methods approaches aimed at assessing motivation, engagement, and the development of mathematical competencies. Favorable outcomes related to learning and academic performance were reported, along with recurrent methodological limitations, including small sample sizes, short intervention durations, limited instrument validation, and constraints on the generalization of findings. Overall, the results highlighted the need to strengthen methodological rigor and coherence in future research on educational gamification.
