Between September and October 2023, a characterization of mangrove structure was carried out at three locations in the western part of the Gulf of Montijo. For this purpose, nine quadrants of 10 x 10 m were distributed at distances of 50 meters each. In each quadrant, an inventory of the species present was carried out and the height and Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) were measured for all trees exceeding 2.5 cm in DBH. From the recorded data set, Basal Area (BA), volume, and density were calculated. Three species were identified, with Pelliciera rhizophorae (tea mangrove) being the most abundant at 64.7%, Rhizophora mangle (red mangrove) at 28.2%, and Rhizophora racemosa (gentleman giant mangrove) at 7.1%. The highest frequency of height and DBH was found between 3 and 10 cm and between 4 and 6 m, respectively. The most abundant diameter category was seedling. Human intervention was observed, evidenced by targeted cutting towards Pelliciera rhizophorae trees. This study helps strengthen the database on mangroves in the western area in the Gulf of Montijo.
