There are several sources of stress that threaten the biodiversity on a global scale, situation that has caused a crisis of such magnitude, that our own species survival is at risk. A partial solution to this problem is the protected area systems, represented by 100,000 sites around the world and which altogether make up 12% of the planet. Currently, Panama has more than 60 protected areas and one of the goals of these protected areas is to serve as reservoirs of the country’s biodiversity. Fortuna’s Forestry Reserve, located in the highlands of the Chiriquí province, is one of the sites of the National System of Protected Areas (SINAP the Spanish acronym). This site contributes to the national and regional initiatives pursuing conservation and natural resource management. In the end, these initiatives translate in benefits both for humans and the rest of the organisms on Earth.
