Quality of care at the university clinic : A social Service Project

Abstract

The Social Service Project is the set of temporary activities that students at the University of Panama carry out for the benefit of the community, in return for what they have achieved in their area of training and carried out as a requirement for obtaining their professional degree. The aim of the project is to evaluate the quality of care at the University Clinic of the Octavio Méndez Pereira Campus. The scope of the study consisted of patients attending the university clinic and a sample of students from the faculties identified with the highest frequency of care. The analysis was descriptive, cross-sectional, with the participation of twenty students of the bachelor’s degree in medical Records and Health Statistics, two tutors and the staff of the University Clinic. With a participation of n=2,420 oriented respondents, the SERVQUAL scale was used, adapted for the services available at the University Clinic. Thirty-nine percent of respondents have received care at the University Clinic and the Level of Quality of Care received was 55.2% Much Better than Expected, 34.2% Better than Expected, exceeding expectations with a total of 89.4%, the remaining values were 9.7% As Expected, 0.86% indicating between Much Worse and Worse than Expected.
